      Þā hē þǣr tō cōm, þā ne meahton hīe nānne mann on þām fæstenne ūtan ġesēon. Þā wundrode Alexander hwȳ hit swā ǣmenne wǣre.
      When he got there, they couldn't see anyone in the fortress from the outside. Then Alexander wondered why it was so empty.
