Etymology edit

From ārstnieks (doctor, physician) +‎ -isks (with ārstnieks from ārsts (doctor, physician) +‎ -nieks), with palatalization of k to c. The term ārstnieks is attested only in older sources; in the modern language, it has been replaced by ārsts.[1]
