đường (“line”) + tròn (“round”).
Pronunciation edit
- (Hà Nội) IPA(key): [ʔɗɨəŋ˨˩ t͡ɕɔn˨˩]
- (Huế) IPA(key): [ʔɗɨəŋ˦˩ ʈɔŋ˦˩]
- (Hồ Chí Minh City) IPA(key): [ʔɗɨəŋ˨˩ ʈɔŋ˨˩]
Noun edit
Usage notes edit
- Not to be confused with hình tròn which is a shape that has a diện tích (“area”). A đường tròn only has a độ dài (“length”) (also known as a chu vi (“perimeter”)), and can be described with an equation like other curves, such as the đường cônic (“conic sections”), elip (“ellipses”), parabol (“parabolae”) and hypebol (“hyperbolae”). A similar distinction is made in 3D geometry, whereby, for example, a "khối cầu" sphere has a thể tích (“volume”), but a "hình cầu" sphere only has a diện tích (“area”).
