Etymology

According to Vassalli's dictionary with an original initial ح (). Hence probably related with Arabic حَشَرَ (ḥašara, to destroy; to sharpen a knife, among other senses).

Compare also حَنَشَ (ḥanaša, to hunt, catch”, and of a venomous animal “to bite). And compare the semantic relation between حَشَرة (ḥašara) and حَنَش (ḥanaš), both originally referring to any small, crawling or short-legged animal (like Proto-Germanic *wurmiz).
