From Ottoman Turkish ایلیمق(ılımak, to grow lukewarm), from Proto-Turkic *yïlï- (to be warm).

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yılı-, to warm up), Turkmen ýylamak (to warm up), Uzbek ilimoq (to warm up).
