Etymology edit

Cognate with Latvian sęrs (bristle). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱer(s)- (rough hair, bristle), whence also Russian шерсть (šerstʹ, wool), and possibly English hair (from Proto-Germanic *hērą (hair)).
