From Proto-Fula-Serer *giƴ/ʔ, whence also Serer hiiƴ/kiiƴ.[1] Cognate with Laalaa ƴoh (bone), Karon kaa-cɛc, Wolof yax, Saafi-Saafi toh, Noon yoh.
