διαμείβομαι

Greek edit

Etymology edit

Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek διαμείβομαι (diameíbomai, give back in return), from Ancient Greek διαμείβω (diameíbō, exchange).[1] By surface analysis, δι- (δια-) (inter-) +‎ αμείβομαι (ameívomai, I am paid, recompensed).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ði.aˈmi.vo.me/
  • Hyphenation: δι‧α‧μεί‧βο‧μαι

Verb edit

διαμείβομαι (diameívomai) deponent (past διαμείφθηκα/διημείφθην) past tense chiefly in 3rd persons

  1. (formal) to be exchanged (something said during discussions)
Δεν ξέρω τι διαμείφθηκε μεταξύ τους, αλλά φαίνεται ότι ήταν σοβαρό: δεν ξαναμίλησαν ποτέ ο ένας στον άλλον.
Den xéro ti diameífthike metaxý tous, allá faínetai óti ítan sovaró: den xanamílisan poté o énas ston állon.
I do not know what was exchanged between them, but it must have been serious: they never spoke to each other ever since.
