editFrom Byzantine Greek ἑξήντα (hexḗnta), from Ancient Greek ἑξήκοντα (hexḗkonta), from Proto-Indo-European *sweḱsḱomth₂, from the earlier *swéḱs-dḱomt-h₂ (“six-ten”).
