Learned borrowing from Koine Greek εὐθύνη (euthúnē, public control of the actions of rulers), from Ancient Greek εὔθυνα (eúthuna), from εὐθύνω (euthúnō, to guide straight; to examine one's conduct), with semantic loan from French responsabilité.[1]
