Learnedly, from Koine Greek καινοτομία (novelty, strangeness) (the ancient sense: "invention").[1] By surface analysis, καινο- +‎ -τομία from καινός (kainós, new) and τομή (tomḗ, intersection), τέμνω (témnō, cut).
