From Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *æɣælmiq. Cognate with Chukchi эгэлмиӄ (eɣelmiq), and Koryak авʼалмын (awalmən).

авʼалмиӄ (awalmiq) (dual авʼалмиӄти, plural авʼалмиӄувʼвʼи)

1. tinder, dry sticks and fibre used to help light a fire.

   Умакаллат авʼалмиӄувʼвʼи.

   They gathered tinder together.

   Ъынпыӈавʼ иви кытвыл анимлǝтъаллака авʼалмиӄыӈ.

   The old woman said, "don't dump water on the tinder".
