editPseudo-loan from Ottoman Turkish, derived from حمام (hammam, “bathhouse”) + ـلق (-lık), as also dialectal Albanian hamamllëk (“bathhouse”). The morphologically identical forms Old Anatolian Turkish حماملق (hammamlık, “bath charge”) and Turkish hamamlık (“washroom”) are separate parallel formations.
