EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Mongolic *jïru, with pre-breaking found in all modern languages. Perhaps related to Proto-Turkic *jaŕ- (to write), Proto-Turkic *čɨŕ- (to draw) or Proto-Tungusic *ńiru- (to write).
