Etymology edit

From Proto-Slavic *květьnь from Proto-Slavic *květъ. Related to квітка (kvitka, flower), referring to flowers which bloom at this time of year. Cognates include Polish kwiecień (April), Czech květen (May), Russian цве́тень (cvétenʹ, April (archaic)).
