Etymology edit
Hypercorrect spelling of ла́пат (lápat) with word-final consonant voicing. Borrowed from Greek λάπατο (lápato, “sorrel”), from Ancient Greek λάπαθον (lápathon). Further etymology uncertain.
Cognate with Albanian lëpjetë, Portuguese labaça and Italian lapazio, among others.
