Compare to Kazakh мә (), Kyrgyz ме (me), Yakut мэ (me), Uzbek ma (here, take (it)). Seems originally an adverb "here, ecce" which borrowed semantics of Turkic imperative: al "take". Compare Kazakh: мә, ал! "here, take (it)!" or Russian: на, держи! "same".
