Inherited from Old East Slavic осмьдесѧтъ (osmĭdesętŭ), from Proto-Slavic *osmь desętъ (80), from compound of *osmь (8) + *desętъ (10).[1] Cognate with Russian во́семьдесят (vósemʹdesjat), Old Church Slavonic осмь десѧтъ (osmĭ desętŭ).
