From Proto-Mordvinic *piźəmə, derived from Proto-Finno-Permic *piśä-~*piśa- (to drip, dribble), suffixed with *-mV. Related to Moksha пизем (piźem, rain), Finnish pisara (drop), Estonian pisar (tear).
