Etymology edit
From Proto-Mordvinic *čonda~*šonda, possibly from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *šinta (“price, value”), borrowed from Proto-Baltic *śímta (“hundred”) (whence Lithuanian šimtas). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm, and thereby a distant doublet of Erzya сядо (śado, “hundred”).
Other cognates include Finnish hinta, Estonian hind (“price”).
