Inherited from Old Slovak *čarodejka, from Proto-Slavic *čarodějьka. By surface analysis, чародїй (čarodjij, sorcerer) +‎ -ка (-ka). Cognates include Slovak čarodejka and Carpathian Rusyn чародї́йка (čarodjíjka).
