Inherited from Proto-Uralic *joŋse. Cognate with Hungarian íj, Finnish jousi, Western Mansi [script needed] (jäγi̮t), Northern Mansi ё̄вт (ë̄wt) and Southern Mansi [script needed] (jäut).
