Etymology

edit

The origin is uncertain. Martirosyan proposes to interpret this as a compound of *բուզ- (*buz-), *բոզ- (*boz-, sun, light) and *աղթ- (*ałtʻ-, darkness). For the first compare բուզի (buzi, sun), for the second աղտամուղտ (ałtamułt, darkness). Typologically compare dialectal մութ-ու-լուս (mutʻ-u-lus, twilight, literally dark-and-light).

Noun

edit

բուզաղթն (buzałtʻn)

  1. darkness
