editAn Iranian borrowing, probably from Old Median *ganǰabarah: compare Middle Persian 𐭢𐭭𐭦𐭥𐭡𐭥 (gnzwbr) / gncwbl (ganjwar), Parthian 𐭂𐭍𐭆𐭁𐭓 (ganzbar). Reshaped by the analysis as գանձ (ganj) + -աւոր (-awor); compare also թագաւոր (tʻagawor).
