Etymology

A Middle Iranian borrowing. Compare Sogdian 𐽀𐼲𐼰𐼳 (rɣʾh), Yagnobi рах (rax). Dialectal ռեխ (ṙex) is borrowed from an unidentified New Iranian representative of the same family. Further possibly related to Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬑𐬙𐬌 (sraxti, edge, corner), Persian رخ (rox, cheek), رخ (rax, chink, notch).
