According to Martirosyan, from Proto-Armenian *er-cʿ-tʿi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁r-sk-ti-. Compare Ancient Greek ἔρχομαι (érkhomai), Sanskrit ऋच्छति (ṛcchati, to reach, come towards, meet with), Hittite [script needed] (ar-šk-, come several times).
