According to Ačaṙean, from Proto-Indo-European *lol-, an ablaut of *lel- (to move, to shake) and cognate with Lithuanian leliúoti (to swing), Russian леле́ять (leléjatʹ, to cherish, foster), Sanskrit लेलायति (lelāyati, to move to andᅠfro, quiver, tremble, shake), Old Armenian լլկեմ (llkem, to torture), dialectal Armenian լելալ (lelal, to move, shake), լող (loġ, roller) (whence Ottoman Turkish لوغ (loğ)), լոլիկ (lolik, tomato), etc. This is accepted by J̌ahukyan.
