An Iranian borrowing: compare Khotanese [script needed] (para-, food), [script needed] (pāra-, cake), [script needed] (pār-, to rear, feed), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (pyšpʾlk' /⁠pēš-pārag⁠/, appetizer), Persian پیشپاره (pêš-pâra, cake made of flour, honey, and oil or butter). Related to Old Armenian նպար (npar), նպարակ (nparak, food), also from Iranian.
