editAn Iranian borrowing: compare Khotanese [script needed] (para-, “food”), [script needed] (pāra-, “cake”), [script needed] (pār-, “to rear, feed”), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (pyšpʾlk' /pēš-pārag/, “appetizer”), Persian پیشپاره (pêš-pâra, “cake made of flour, honey, and oil or butter”). Related to Old Armenian նպար (npar), նպարակ (nparak, “food”), also from Iranian.
