Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *dolH-o-, from the root *delH-; cognate with Proto-Germanic *talą (speech; number), *taljaną (to enumerate, count; to account, recount, tell; originally to align), *talō (speech, recount), Hittite [script needed] (tal-li-i̯a-zi /⁠talliyazi⁠/, to pray to, to evoke (a deity)), Ancient Greek δόλος (dólos, bait, trick).[1][2][3][4][5][6] See also Old Armenian տաղ (tał).
