From Turkish Edirne and Ottoman Turkish ادرنه (Edirne), from Byzantine Greek Ἁδριανούπολις (Hadrianoúpolis), from Ancient Greek Ἁδριανός (Hadrianós, “Hadrian”) + πόλις (pólis, “city, city-state”).
