Uyghur edit

Etymology edit

Inherited from Chagatai عرب (ʿarab /äräb/), from Classical Persian عرب (ʿarab /arab/), from Arabic عَرَبٌ (ʕarabun, Arabs, indefinite nominative collective).

Coda ـب (-b) exceptionally remained ‘voiced’ orthographically, being consistent with also Uzbek arab and Kazakh араб (arab), in contrast to most other loanwords who had devoiced their original Perso-Arabic ـب (-b) to native ـپ (-p).
