اِنْتَحَلَ (intaḥala) VIII, non-past يَنْتَحِلُ‎ (yantaḥilu)

  1. to ascribe to oneself, to plagiarize, to claim for oneself, to assume unduly, to presume, to arrogate to oneself
    اِنْتَحَلَ شَخْصِيَّتَكَ وَلَعِبَ دَوْرَكَ
    intaḥala šaḵṣiyyataka walaʕiba dawraka
    He passed himself off as you and played your role.
  2. to embrace, to profess
    يَنْتَحِلُ ٱلْيُهُودِيَّةَ/ٱلْمَسِيحِيَّةَ/ٱلْإِسْلَامَ
    yantaḥilu l-yuhūdiyyata/l-masīḥiyyata/l-ʔislāma
    He professes Judaism/Christianity/Islam.
  3. to borrow, to adopt (words from a foreign language)
    اِنْتَحَلَ ٱلْأَعْذَارَ
    intaḥala l-ʔaʕḏāra
    He thought up excuses.
