Etymology

Inherited from Common Turkic *yinǯü, ultimately from Middle Chinese 珍珠 (MC trin tsyu) ~ 眞珠 (MC tsyin tsyu, “genuine pearl”). Cognate with Azerbaijani inci, Bashkir ынйы (ınyı), Kazakh інжу (ınju), Tatar энҗе (ence), Turkmen hünji and Uzbek inju.
