Etymology

Compound of بَا (, mouth) +‎ مُسْت (must, before, in front of), i.e. "that which is in front of the mouth". Ultimately from Proto-Dravidian. For cognates of the latter term in the compound, compare Kurukh [script needed] (mussō, running from the nose), Kumarbhag Paharia [script needed] (muso, snot, the nose).
