Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀳𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bahutta), from Sanskrit बहुत्व (bahutva, muchness, abundance, multitude), from Sanskrit बहु (bahu, much, many, abundant) from Proto-Indo-European *bʰenǵʰ- (thick). Compare Bengali বহুত (bohut), Punjabi ਬਹੁਤ (bahut) / بوْہَت (bohat) and Pahari-Potwari بہوں (bahū̃).
