- An acquaintance of mine has a baker who told me that he had been given a flogging because of the way he baked his bread.“Bread for me should be thoroughly baked,” the baker had been instructed, “and bread for my visitors should be half-baked. For the family and house guests, the dough should be kept in the oven just long enough for it to set and take on the appearance of bread.” For his failure to perform this delicate task to satisfaction, the baker received the same punishment as a free-born man who fornicates!
