Cognate with Avestan 𐬘𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (juuaiti), Northern Kurdish jîyan, Pashto ژوند کول (žwënd kawël), Sanskrit जीवति (jīvati). More distantly related to Ancient Greek βείομαι (beíomai).
