Etymology edit
From Middle Iranian ayyār; akin to Manichaean Middle Persian hyʾr (hayyār, “helper”). Partially borrowed from Arabic عَيَّار (ʕayyār, “vagabond”), from the root ع ي ر (ʕ-y-r) related with roaming and wandering.

- a bandit from a group of outlaws in Sassanid Persia and early Islamic era until Mongol invasion who were praised for their deeds which was robbing from the rich and giving to the poor.
