Etymology
editBorrowed from Classical Syriac ܟܘܫܢܐ (kūšnā). Doublet of كَرْسَنَّة (karsanna, “Vicia ervilia”) which is from Aramaic כַּרְשִׁינָא (karšinnā) or Hebrew כַּרְשִׁינָה (karšīna), if both are ultimately from Sanskrit कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa, “black”). Also encountered in Akkadian 𒄘𒃻𒄯𒊏 (/kiššanu/).
