Persian edit

Etymology edit

Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lwcynk' /lōzēnag/, almond sweetmeat, marzipan), which according to Eilers developed with a nl sound change from earlier *nōčēnak (pastry with pine nuts (which taste similar to almonds)), a derivative of Old Persian 𐎴𐎢𐎨𐎡𐎴 (n-u-c-i-n /naucaina/, of pine, adjective), from *nauciš.

Akin to Arabic لَوْزِينَج (lawzīnaj), Khwarezmian [script needed] (lwzynyk), Classical Syriac ܠܘܙܐ (lūzā), Arabic لَوْز (lawz).
