Etymology edit

Plural of معروض (maruz), from Arabic مَعْرُوض (maʕrūḍ), passive participle of عَرَضَ (ʕaraḍa, “to appear, happen, show”). By the end of Ottoman times the singular and plural had diverged in meaning.
