editInherited from Chagatai یخشی (yaxşi), from Common Turkic *yaxšï,[1] from Proto-Turkic *yakïš- (“to suit, to fit”), from *yak- (“to come near (to each other)”). Cognate with Azerbaijani yaxşı, Southern Altai јакшы (ǰakšï), Kyrgyz жакшы (jakşı), Kumyk яхшы (yaxşı), Shor чақшы (čak̂šï), Khakas чахсы (çaxsı).
