editFrom Aramaic כּוּכִּיתָא (kukkīṯā), through borrowed Arabic كُوخ (kūḵ), ultimately from Akkadian 𒆠𒅅𒆠𒋙 (kikkiš, “reed wall or fence; reed hut”); cognate with Classical Syriac ܟܘܟܝܬܐ (kukkīṯā), Persian کوخ (“hut, shack”) and Georgian ქოხი (koxi, “cabin, shack”). Doublet of ܟܘܼܪܚܵܐ (kurḥā, “kiosk, stall”).
