Etymology

edit

Possibly related to Aramaic [script needed] (nṭal, to lift up) or Aramaic [script needed] (nšal, to be removed) or a blend of the cognate of Classical Syriac ܢܬܲܫ (ntaš, to pluck) + ܠ- (l-) through metathesis and elision of /t/. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
