From ܣܘܼܪܵܝܵܐ (surrāyā, “Assyrian”) + -ܐܝܼܬ݂ (-īṯ, the language suffix). Compare Classical Syriac ܣܘܪܝܐܝܬ (suryāʾīṯ) and Turoyo ܣܘܪܰܝܬ (surayt).
