Compare Hebrew סָפַר (safár, to count) and Hebrew סִפֵּר (sipér, to recount; to narrate). The first and second meanings come from one root, the third and fourth from another, and the fifth comes from an irregular development from ܣܵܒ݂ܸܪ (sāḇir, to hope) or the pael stem of it.
