From ܥܘܠܐ (ʿawwālāʾ, wrongdoer), modified from ܥܘܠܐ (ʿawlāʾ, wrong), from the root ܥ-ܘ-ܠ (ʿ-w-l) + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯāʾ).
