     ऋग्वेद में समुद्र का उल्लेख अनेक ऋचाओं में हुआ है। […] अपेय समुद्री जल के बीच पानी के लिए तरसते हुए यात्रियों की कष्ट कथा का भी उल्लेख किया गया है।

     ŕgved mẽ samudra kā ullekh anek ŕcāõ mẽ huā hai. […] apey samudrī jal ke bīc pānī ke lie taraste hue yātriyõ kī kaṣṭ kathā kā bhī ullekh kiyā gayā hai.

     In the Rigveda, there is mention of the sea in many verses. The pain-story of travellers longing for water amidst undrinkable seawater is also mentioned.

     जानामि तेजो विप्राणां महाभाग्यं च धीमताम् । अपेयः सागरः क्रोधात्कृतो हि लवणोदकः ॥

     jānāmi tejo viprāṇāṃ mahābhāgyaṃ ca dhīmatām. apeyaḥ sāgaraḥ krodhātkṛto hi lavaṇodakaḥ.

     I know the brilliance of the wise sages, and the high excellence of the intelligent. For the sea turned undrinkable with salty water by their anger.

   • c. 800 CE – 950 CE, Nārāyaṇa, Hitopadeśa Prāstavika [Preface].47:

     गुणा गुणज्ञेषु गुणा भवन्ति ते निर्गुणं प्राप्य भवन्ति दोषाः । आस्वाद्यतोयाः प्रवहन्ति नद्यः समुद्रमासाद्य भवन्त्य्अपेयाः ॥

     guṇā guṇajñeṣu guṇā bhavanti te nirguṇaṃ prāpya bhavanti doṣāḥ. āsvādyatoyāḥ pravahanti nadyaḥ samudramāsādya bhavantyapeyāḥ.

     Virtues become multiplied in those appreciative of them; they become vices when they meet with the virtueless. Rivers that flow with sweet water become undrinkable after meeting with the sea.
