editDeverbal form of आड़ना (āṛnā, “to obstruct”), from Prakrit *अड्डइ (aḍḍaï), derived from Dravidian, for which compare Tamil அடை (aṭai, “to obstruct”). Cognate with Gujarati આડી (āḍī, “obstacle”) and Assamese আঁৰ (ãr, “screen”). Doublet of अड्डा (aḍḍā) and related to अड़ना (aṛnā).
