Semi-learned borrowing from Sanskrit क्रयाणक (krayāṇaka, goods for sale) through Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀺𑀆𑀡𑀕 (kiāṇaga), from क्री (krī, to buy), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷreyh₂- (to buy).
